Positions Description – Dining Room Hostess
Objective or Purpose: To coordinate smooth running of the Dining Hall and the commercial dishwasher.
Qualifications:
- Works well on a team
- Is flexible and able to meet new situations
- Ability to give and take directions
- Has some experience with using a commercial dishwasher and/or is willing to learn
- Has some experience managing a dining situation for a large group
Time Commitment:
- 12 day camp – 2 precamp training days and 10 camper days including clean-up
- June weekend training
- Any in-city training, conducted by Camp Committee
Duties:
- Reviews Jumping routines with all staff at pre camp training
- Determines appropriate number of tables for each meal in consultation with the Business Manager and makes place cards
- In consultation with the Head Cook determines the appropriate table setting for each meal, including dishes, condiments, serving utensils etc…
- Communicates the table arrangements and settings to the Jumpers 15 minutes before the scheduled meal time and assists with the placement and setting of tables
- At the beginning of the meal introduces the meal and coordinates tables for salad bar, soup, serving etc…
- Prepares the sinks, scrapers, bins etc… for jumpers
- Supervises and assists jumpers with clean up, ensures the tables are washed and floors are swept and mopped sufficiently
- Following jumpers, cleans, and dries counters and floors
- Ensures that the compost is being emptied daily either by herself or jumpers
- Loads and unloads the commercial dishwasher and stores the cleaned dishes
- Fill the napkin containers and the other items in the small pantry in the dining room as required prior to each meal.
- Restocking of the fridge in the dining room as required
- Instruct others on operation of the commercial dishwasher or designated staff wash snack dishes by hand
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Cook (i.e. laundry, simple food preparation)
