Position Description – Health Care Worker
Objective or Purpose:
To ensure the campers and staff are safe by following all health and safety regulations
Qualifications:
- Holds advanced First Aid or Nursing Certificate
- Minimum 3 years related experience
- the ability to work independently and as a part of the Kalalla staff team
Time Commitment:
- 12 day camp – 2 precamp training days and 10 camper days, including clean-up
- June weekend training
- Any in-city training, conducted by Camp Committee
Duties:
- attends pre-camp training
- reads and understands the contents of the Health Care Workers Binder located in the Health Care Centre
- ensures the Health Care Centre is in working order prior to campers arrival; all supplies have been purchased and are on site as confirmed against the master list in the Health Care Workers binder.
- receives health information and all medication brought to camp and administers in accordance with directions
- meets with each staff member and camper upon arrival to discuss health concerns and perform lice checks
- advises Director when parents should be called pertaining to health issues
- is familiar with emergency procedures for care and transportation of sick and injured campers and staff
- posts emergency numbers in Health Centre and other strategic places
- keeps individualized daily legal records of ALL treatments and prescription medications given
- checks daily for sanitation and health conditions, ensuring proper use of disinfectants
- supervises adherence to Provincial health regulations
- informs counsellors and other staff of specific camper problems, restrictions or needs
- makes recommendations to camp committee on condition of equipment and supplies
- attends staff meetings
- communicates problems to the Director
- makes an inventory after the last session to accompany the Health Care Workers report
- available as a resource for staff and other related duties which may from time to time be required (i.e. offer first aid classes to staff or camper units)
Please Note:
- Supplies will be purchased by Health Care coordinator (currently Sue Pitt), additional supplies by Business Manager
- There is a Health Care Workers binder available on site
