Position Description – Water Front Director
Objective or Purpose:
To provide a safe, enjoyable aquatic experience for campers and staff.
Qualifications:
- minimum 18 years of age
- minimum 4 years of experience
- holds a current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross or greater award, and must bring a copy of qualification to be posted in the boathouse
- experience with canoes and kayaks
- experience with waterfront (lakeside)
Time Commitment:
- 12 day camp – 2 precamp training days and 10 camper days, including clean-up
- June weekend training
- Any in-city training, conducted by Camp Committee
Duties:
- attends pre-camp training sessions, and leads session on waterfront procedures
- ensures that swimming area is properly marked in accordance with provincial health regulations
- directs aquatic activities at the waterfront
- participates in all camp activities
- gives attention to life guarding while on duty
- tests camper and staff swimming ability
- provides lessons to all who desire
- checks safety equipment for safety and wear and tear as required
- report any damage or breakages to the Business Manager
- has complete control over all campers and staff while on waterfront
- directs buddy system
- reports any damage or breakage of equipment to business manager
- teaches proper safety and use of canoes and kayaks
- seeks assistance from other staff when needed
- ensures the first aid kit is properly stocked and keeps track of supplies needed and what has been used
- follows emergency waterfront procedures
- contacts waterfront assistants prior to precamp to discuss games and waterfront theme days, regatta
- completes reports due to injuries and accidents
- has a resource of waterfront activities to be used during swim times or on rainy days
- provides programming during inclement weather
- stays for cleanup of own sleeping quarters and boathouse
- inventory of all waterfront equipment should be completed at the beginning of first camp as well as at the end of each camp session
- ensures the waterfront is cleaned up and secured each night, in between camps and at the close of the second session of camp
- is familiar with Ontario Regulation 242/84 or the most current regulation for regulation for recreational camps
