Position Description – Water Front Assistant
Objective or Purpose:
To provide a safe, enjoyable aquatic experience for campers and staff.
Qualifications:
- minimum 17 years of age
- holds a current Bronze Cross or equivalent, and must bring a copy of qualification to be posted in the boathouse
- experience with canoes and kayaks
- experience with waterfront
Time Commitment:
- 12 day camp – 2 precamp training days and 10 camper days, including clean-up
- June weekend training
- Any in-city training, conducted by Camp Committee
Duties:
- attends pre-camp training sessions
- supervises aquatic activities at the waterfront
- participates in all camp activities
- gives attention to life guarding while on duty
- assists in testing camper and staff swimming ability
- provides lessons to all who desire
- assists with directing buddy system
- reports any damage or breakage of equipment to waterfront director
- teaches proper safety and use of canoes and kayaks
- follows emergency waterfront procedures
- daily cleanup of boathouse and surrounding areas
- has a resource of waterfront activities to be used during swim times or on rainy days
- provides programming during inclement weather
- stays for cleanup of own sleeping quarters and boathouse
- checks safety equipment for safety and wear and tear as required
